Product Specifications

Nutritional value of codfish strips with chicken for dogs: 45% protein

Key benefits of Codfish Strips with Chicken

🐟 Mostly codfish, some chicken

83% codfish and 10% chicken breast. A lean, fish-first treat, with a little chicken for a flavour most dogs already know.

💪 45% protein, 3% fat

Almost half of every strip is protein, and it's very lean. Easy to fit into your dog's daily food, even on days you train a lot.

🎯 Soft and tearable

Tear a strip into small bites, so one strip goes a long way in a training session.

🌾 Grain-free, nothing artificial

No grains or gluten, no added salt or sugar, and no artificial colours, flavours or preservatives. The flavour comes from the fish and chicken.

🧪 3rd party lab tested

A 3rd party lab found no detectable lead or mercury, only traces of cadmium and arsenic (normal for fish), and no Salmonella. Full results below.

Ingredients of Codfish Strips with Chicken

Codfish 83%, chicken 10%, glycerin 4%, potato starch 2%, vegetable protein 1%.

Full transparency: every ingredient is named with its exact share, and together they add up to 100%. No catch-all terms like "by-products" or "minerals".

93% is codfish and chicken breast. It is not a single-ingredient treat: the other 7% holds the strips together and keeps them soft.

Codfish (83%)

  • What it is: a lean white fish, and the main ingredient in every strip.
  • Why it's good for your dog: high-quality protein that supports lean muscle, with very little fat.
  • Who should avoid it: dogs with a known fish allergy.

Chicken breast (10%)

  • What it is: lean white meat, added for flavour and protein.
  • Why it's good for your dog: a taste most dogs already know, which makes these strips an easy first fish treat.
  • Who should avoid it: dogs with a known chicken allergy.

Vegetable glycerin (4%)

  • What it is: a clear, slightly sweet liquid made from palm oil. It keeps the treat soft and helps prevent mould.
  • Is it OK for dogs? Yes. Food-grade glycerin is widely used in dog treats and is considered safe.
  • Who should avoid it: diabetic dogs, unless your vet agrees.

Potato starch (2%)

  • What it is: starch from potatoes, used in a small amount to bind the treat together.
  • Is it OK for dogs? Yes. It's grain-free and widely used in dog food and treats.
  • Who should avoid it: diabetic dogs, unless your vet agrees, since starch adds carbohydrate.

Vegetable protein (1%)

  • What it is: protein from plants, used in a small amount to help hold the treat together.
  • Is it OK for dogs? Yes. Plant proteins are common in dog food and safe for most dogs.
  • Who should avoid it: dogs with a known allergy to soy or other plant proteins.

No grains, no added salt or sugar, and no artificial colours, flavours or preservatives. Each pack contains 85 g of strips.

Nutritional Value of Codfish Strips with Chicken

Guaranteed analysis

  • Crude protein: 45%
  • Crude fat: 3%
  • Crude fibre: 2%
  • Crude ash: 4%
  • Moisture: 18%

What this means for your dog

Almost half of each strip is protein, and at 3% fat it's leaner than our rabbit ear chews. Still count these strips within your dog's daily food: treats should stay under 10% of what your dog eats in a day.

Safety standards & test results

Jolly Pawps Codfish Strips with Chicken has been tested by a 3rd party lab, Centre Testing International (CTI), Qingdao (China), which is CNAS-accredited.

Heavy metals

  1. Lead: not detected (below 0.1 mg/kg) ✅
  2. Mercury: not detected (below 0.003 mg/kg) ✅
  3. Cadmium: 0.113 mg/kg ✅
  4. Arsenic (total): 0.135 mg/kg ✅

Fish naturally carries traces of cadmium and arsenic, so small readings like these are expected in fish treats. Both are below FSSAI's limits for human food.

Pathogens and microbial counts

  1. Salmonella: not detected ✅
  2. Total Bacterial count: below 10 CFU/g ✅
  3. Enterobacteriaceae: below 10 CFU/g ✅*
  4. Moulds and yeasts: below 10 CFU/g ✅*

*Tested outside the lab's CNAS accreditation scope, as noted on the report.

How to use the product

🦴 How to give it to your dog

  • 🎯 Give it as a training reward or an everyday treat, not as a meal.
  • 🤏 Tear a strip into small bites, so you can reward often without overfeeding.
  • 👀 Stay nearby while your dog eats, especially the first few times.
  • 💧 Keep fresh water within reach.

🐾 Giving it for the first time?

Start with half a strip a day, the smallest amount in the feeding guide, for the first two days and watch for any tummy upset. If all is well, move to the daily amount below.

⚖️ Daily feeding guide

As recommended by Jolly Pawps.

1–10 kg: ½ to 3 pieces
10–20 kg: 3 to 7 pieces
20–30 kg: 7 to 10 pieces
Above 30 kg: 10 to 13 pieces

Keep all treats under 10% of your dog's daily food. If your dog eats 200 g of food a day, that is less than 20 g of treats.

🐶 For puppies

Suitable for puppies 3 months and older. Tear the strips into small pieces and stay with your puppy while they eat.

📦 How to store

Keep the pack sealed in a cool, dry place. Shelf life is 18 months; check the best-before date on the pack.

FAQs

Are codfish treats good for dogs?

Yes, as a treat. Cod is a lean white fish, and these strips are 45% protein with only 3% fat. Skip them if your dog has a known fish or chicken allergy.

Is there mercury in these fish treats?

None was detected. A 3rd party lab found no detectable mercury or lead, and only traces of cadmium (0.113 mg/kg) and arsenic (0.135 mg/kg), which is normal for fish. The full report is in the safety section above.

Can puppies have codfish strips?

Yes, from 3 months. Tear the strips into small pieces and stay with your puppy while they eat. Start with a little and watch for any tummy upset.

How many codfish strips can I give my dog in a day?

It depends on your dog's weight: ½ to 3 pieces up to 10 kg, 3 to 7 for 10–20 kg, 7 to 10 for 20–30 kg, and 10 to 13 above 30 kg. Count them within your dog's daily food, since treats should stay under 10% of what your dog eats in a day.

Codfish strips or codfish sushi: which should I pick?

Pick the strips for a lean treat (3% fat) you can tear to any size. Pick the codfish sushi if chicken doesn't suit your dog; it has no chicken and comes in ready-made bites, but it's richer at 12% fat. Both were tested by the same 3rd party lab.
